Ok I will start off with this disclaimer..I am not really a huge fan of President Obama's brand of politics. I think on a lot of key economic issues he and I would disagree philosophically. I am still waiting for the next Ronald Reagan.
I do however think that his election was good for the US from a social and world political view point. Number one-- His election gives the folks who are trying to push a large group of young, disenfranchised folks in the right direction somewhere to point besides the NBA and P-Diddy and say see that is what you can be someday. Everybody needs hope to think their situation can get better.
Number two--I deal with a lot of people from other countries and quite frankly during the election, everyone of them could not fathom that US citizens would even consider electing anyone else. Obama seemed like such a clear choice to my non-US friends, they were shocked that McCain even got any votes. Like it or not, we do live in a world with few geographic barriers now and I don't think you can discount NOT looking like idiots to people who live in other countries. (even if we know that in fact we may be idiots)
But I say all of this, to tell you that on Thursday President Obama scored another point in book. Seems he was at a town hall meeting in Costa Mesa California. (Warming up for his stint on Jay Leno) He told the crowd everyone is mad about the AIG bonuses and folks are looking for who to blame in Washington. Obama said "I will take responsibility, I am the President". I say way to go Mr. President. I have been in business for over 25 years and have been responsible for running large departments and large companie in that time and I can absolutely tell you that sometimes as the leader of an organization you have to "man up" and say BLAME ME. I am the boss and whatever bad happens is ultimately my fault.
In the words of Harry Truman.."The buck stops here".
One note of caution to President Obama though. History has not been all that kind to Mr. Truman's presidency.
